Review: Monster Energy Aftershock Festival 2018 Live At Discovery Park

As 2018 nears its close, Danny Wimmer Gifts and team once more graced California's capital with the very popular (and very sold-out) Monster Energy Aftershock Festival, now in its seventh season. , you ask? Oh, you know, only a and people --the largest turn-out of the festival yet.

For those of you out there who do not know the name Danny Wimmer...shame on you. But this guy --this event producer extraordinaire--understands his festivals. Mr. Wimmer is also known for other shindigs (Aftershock being the only west coast iteration) for example Northern Invasion, Chicago Open Air, Rock on the Range, Louder Than Life, Rock Allegiance, Bourbon and Beyond, Hometown Growing, Carolina Rebellion, The Big Ticket, Fort Rock, Welcome to Rockville, and new entrant for 2019 Sonic Temple (replacing Rock On The Range).

This year's festival was unique for a few reasons, most notably of which being the tragic passing of legendary drummer Vinnie Paul (Pantera/Damageplan/Hellyeah), who would have played with his previously-scheduled band Hellyeah. In the months after his departure and leading up to October's Aftershock, there was a tribute erected in his honour. People who paid homage and played iconic Pantera and Damageplan music included Korn's Jonathan Davis, Godsmack's Sully Erna, Deftones's Stephen Carpenter, Shinedown's Zach Meyers, Sevendust's Clint Lowery and John Connolly, GWAR's Blothar and Pustulus Maximus, KYNG's Pepe Clarke and Eddie Veliz, Emmure's Frankie Palmeri, Act of Defiance's Chris Broderick, and Hellyeah's Kyle Sanders. Vinnie's own kit has been utilized in the tribute and SiriusXM's Jose Mangin hosted.

Saturday's nearer was none other than Sacramento's very own Deftones. Seeing Chino and the gang enabled me to cross off of my why-the-hell-haven't-I-seen-them-live-yet list. And theDeftones Phantom Bride IPA out of Belching Beaver ai not half bad.

The bordering fence lineup for this season's installation was expanded (you can presume that it was because of enormous ticket revenue ) which allowed for much more food, beverage, and merch sellers. One of them was the noteworthy Caduceus Cellars & Merkin Vineyards Wine Garden, possessed by Tool/A Fantastic Circle/Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan. We had been tempted to ask about a Tool record that was late but surmised they understood not the goings on in this respect.

Some of These hitters that were Noteworthy that shook Sacramento Contained 311, Such as War Emmure Sevendust, Including Alexandria, Action Bronson Incubus, Bullet For My Valentine, Alice in Chains, and Seether.

The 2018 Dragon Energy Aftershock Festival has been to no one's surprise--a huge victory, and should you, dear friend, have some tendency of attending next season...well, I suppose we will see you .

There were several standout performances for example LAW, a rock band fronted by Sublime royalty Jakob Nowell. The Fever 333 came hard with their (great ) political communications and wonderful energy. We have seen these men before at the Festival of this year, and we would do it over and over again. Check out these guys.
